Kelly Lavallee - I am Anishinaabe Métis and a citizen of the Métis Nation of Ontario, with ties to Red River through my grandmother’s side (Godon, McIvor, Swain, Lillie) and to the historic Métis community of Témiscaming through my grandfather’s side (Lavallee, Gauthier, Taylor (Red River), Pepin). On my father’s side, I carry Irish and Scottish ancestry, which I hold alongside my Métis and Anishinaabe roots. I am accountable to Spirit. I am accountable to my family, future generations, ceremony families, the Métis Nation, First Peoples, Mother Earth, the animals, and the water. I also honour my great-grandfather, Giiosawtung (Robinson Superior Treaty) who came to me in a shake tent ceremony to give me his name and territory. He affirmed my responsibility to walk this path with humility, integrity, and respect for all that is sacred.
